Tibet Overland Tour is most exciting and popular Trans Himalayan tour operated from Nepal. This tour is best suited for those enthusiastic travelers who don’t have many days in their hand; still want to explore magnificence of mighty Tibet. This trip takes you all the way to Lhasa from Kathmandu through Kodari on Toyota 4 wheel after several days of drive. During the Overland drive we would have wonderful opportunity to visit many land mark sites of Tibet like Monasteries, Lakes and high passes. It is also a great opportunity to see the nomadic people and their unique culture during the tour. This is a true experience of rural Tibet.

Two days of guided sightseeing tour in Lhasa is rare experience; which covers all historical sights and monuments including the great Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Drepung Monastery, Norbulinkha Palace and Barkhor Bazaar etc…

Itinerary in Detail

 

Day 01: KATHMANDU - NY LAM (3800 m) - 127 Km.
Departure at 5:30 hrs from our office in Thamel. After an Approx. 06 hrs drive we reach KODARI (China/Nepal Boarder). Half an hour drive by truck will bring us to ZANGMU, where after completion of immigration formalities we further drive to Nylam following the BHOTE KOSHI River in a deep valley with some overflowing waterfalls. O/N Hotel

Day 02: NY LAM - LHATZE (4500 m) - 125 Km.
From Nylam, the road follows the BHOTE KOSHI River in a deep valley with plenty of waterfalls. After 2 and half hour drive we reach NY LAM PASS. (3800m) with the JUGAL HIMAL in view. A continued drive via LALUNG LA PASS (5050m) will bring us in view of MT LANGTHANG (9724m), MT. XIXAPANGMA (8013m), MT DORJEE LAPKA (6980m), MT. MAKALU (8464m), MT EVEREST (8884m), MT LHOTSE (8516m) & MT CHO OYU (8201m). O/N Hotel

Day 03: LHATZE - XIGATSE (3900 m) -195 Km.
Lhatze is 03 hrs. A way over a 5220m pass, near the petrol station, there is small restaurant where tea / snacks are available. Reach Xigatse, the place of the famous TASHILUMPO MONASTERY the seat of Panchen Lama until his death in 1989 with its huge Thanka Wall clearly visible on the northern side of the road. O/N Hotel

Day 04: XIGATSE - GYANTSE (3950 m) - 90 Km.
After visiting TASHILUMPO MONASTERY in the morning including the Bazaar of Xigatse, drive to Gyantse, which is small bustling town steeped in history. It lies 264 Km. Southwest of Lhasa on the northern bank of NYANG CHU River. In the 15th century it served as the capital of a small kingdom. Visit KUMBUM CHORTEN which was built around 1400 AD. It later became the main center for trade with British India. O/N Hotel

Day 05: GYANTSE - LHASA ( 3650 m ) - 261Kms.
08 hours drive takes you to Lhasa crossing the KARO LA PASS (5110m) and KAMBA LA PASS (4797m). The KARO LA PASS climbs two lofty mountains, NOZING KHANG SA (7223m) and RALUNG (9623m). While driving; you will see the YAMDROK TSO (Turquoise Lake) which takes approx. 1 hr. to cross around. After passing KAMBALA, Lhasa valley will be seen to the north. You will also cross the Brahmaputra River. Reaching Lhasa and check into hotel. The accompanied guide will reconfirm your onward airline ticket. O/N Hotel

DAYS 06 & 07: LHASA TOUR.
These days you will be engrossed with sightseeing and excursion of the POTALA PALACE, THE JOKHANG TEMPLE, surrounding BARKHOR market area, DREPUNG and SERA monasteries. O/N Hotel

Day 08: LHASA - KATHMANDU.
In the morning after breakfast 2 hrs drive to Gonggar Airport. Bid farewell to the Holy City and fly back to Kathmandu. Departure of flight for Kathmandu would be approx. 10:00 hrs. (China Standard Time) and will arrive Kathmandu at 09:00 hrs. (Nepal Standard Time). Flight duration Lhasa - Kathmandu is 1hour & 10 minutes approximately. During the flight (weather permitting) you will see the following: YARLUNG TSANGPO RIVER, LAKE YAMDROK, MT KANCHENJUNGA (8586m), MT MAKALU (8463m) and MT EVEREST (8848m).

You are requested to submit us the following passport information at least 20 days before trip departure for visa procedure. At least 2 days before tour commencement, original passports must reach to our office in Kathmandu.

TEMPERATURE & CLOTHING

Tibet will have it's average temperature between 5-20 degree Celsius in the month of April through October. During trekking season, the night temperature in the mountain often falls below freezing. Therefore, you are required to have adequate warm clothes to save from extreme cold. Further, it will be better to dress in layers that can be easily put on & off as required. It is often advisable to carry raincoat because snow or rain can also occur sometimes.

 

CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES RECOMMENDED:-

Thermal underwear, woolen or silk long sleeve tops & bottoms
Woolen shirts, pullover, pants, socks, hat, gloves & scarves
Down jacket or wind breaker
Good walking boots or shoes
Sun hat, sun glass, suntan lotion, torch light, pen knife
Medicine for common colds, headache, diarrhea & diamox against altitude sickness.

 

HEALTH

It is necessary to be physically fit & healthy for the participate on Tibet tour. Though, there is no particular age limit guideline, child below 8 years or elderly people exceeding 70 years or more are not advisable to take participation. Doctor's medical certificate is essential for trip participation. Further more, those who are sufferer of high blood pressure, heart problem or diabetic are not recommending for tour.
