Mustang Trekking

Mustang the remote ancient Buddhist kingdom is very special destination for explorer since many centuries. This forbidden kingdom lies beyond the mighty Himalaya in the Tibetan plateau. Geographical structure of this region is quite interesting to see and gathers with high windy valley, pretty stratified rock formation, eroded canyons and desert like surrounding. Its capital Lo-Manthang and surrounding area or monasteries are quite unique for the visitors. This magnificent Tibetan plateau is still unofficially ruling by a Buddhist King who lives in capital Lo-Manthnag. Those who desire to meet and share some tea with him it is possible in his palace.

The fabled medieval art and architecture of wall city Lo-Manthang is eye sticking. Houses of the region looks quite imaginative and made by locally made sun bricks, mud and tapped each other, in some cases one uphold others. Many westerners reach here for study and find new fact of ancient human lifestyle and activities. In the recent past a group of explorer discovers some valuable facts and objects of cultural and historical importance in this highland desert. It is a lifetime reward to make a trip to Mustang and gather complete knowledge of the region. You will not back without being surprise of the people, culture, landscape and structure.

Itinerary in Detail

 

Day 01: Your arrival at Kathmandu (1300m)
Arrival at TIA airport Kathmandu, Received and transfer to Hotel, short briefing about the program, overnight at Hotel.

Day 02: Sightseeing tour Kathmandu.
Guided cultural excursion to Kathmandu, including Durbar Square, Swyambhu Nath, Bouddha Nath and Pashupati Nath, final briefing and preparation for trekking, overnight at Hotel.

Day 03: Drive Kathmandu to Pokhara (900m).
Early morning drive to Pokhara by a deluxe coach with trekking guide, transfer to Hotel, overnight at Hotel.

Day 04: Fly to Jomsom and trek to Kagbeni (2800m).
Early in the morning take a flight from Pokhara to Jomsom with great View of Mt. Annapurnas, Dhawalagiri and Fishtail through world’s deepest Kali Gandaki gorge. Arrival at Jomsom and meet the trekking crew and start trekking towards Kagbeni, the gateway to ancient buddhist kingdom.

Day 05: Trek to Chele (3050m).
Here we lead upward crossing many ridges along the bank of holy Kaligandaki with great view of Nilgiri peak which dominates the skyline over the Kagbeni. Beyond the Tangbe we reach Chhusang village, than trek further north after crossing the River. The trek now leaves the Kaligandaki valley and climbing up to rocky gully to Chele. From here we feel the cultural difference between Manangi and Tibetan origin.

Day 06: Trek to Geling (3500m).
Upward hiking is continue along steep, plant less, waterless desert like terrain, along the spectacular steep canyon to a pass and calm of rock. Then the trail makes gradual descent viewing some well maintain Chortens on the ridge, we further descent towards Samar village. From here we gently climb to a pass at 3770m and descend to Geling village.

Day 07: Trek to Charang (3620m).
From Geling the trail climbs gently up to a pass and descend the blue, gray and red cliffs. After crossing the suspension bridge over the Tangmar Chu (river) we will arrive at Mani Wall. Climbing over other pass at 3600m, the trail takes a gentle descent to Charang village. White Dzong and red Gompa are main attractions of this village.


Day 08: Trek to Lo-Manthang (3840m).
It is an opportunity to visit two other villages on the trail, which leads till Lo-Gekar. Lo-Gekar monastery is even older than Samye monastery in Tibet and oldest one in Nepal. After visiting Lo-Gekar and surrounding area continue trek to Lo-Manthang the capital of upper mustang. The trail is better from here with minor climbing. Finally we reach on the ridge where we see the forbidden walled city Lo-Manthang.

Day 09: Exploration day aroung Lo-Monthang.
Finally we reach our ultimate destination Lo-Manthang. It is a most historical wall city on Trans Himalaya Tibetan plateau. There are number of monasteries and historical important sites like age old caves and other interesting places. We visit Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar. Namgyal Gompa is uniquely situates on the hilltop, which consider as an important monastery among the local community. We further continue our tour to Tingkhar, which is last main village to northwest of Lo-Monthang. After completing the exploration of Namgyal and Tingkhar we back to Lo-Manthang.

Day 10: Exploration day aroung Lo-Monthang.

Day 11: Trek to Tange (3370m)
From Dhi the trail goes through the river and crosses from Damodar Kunda, one of the sacred lakes of the region. After crossing the river trail climbs up a pass elevating 3850m heads towards plant less barren hill. Tangbe a small village of around 30 houses, where most of the houses are attached with each other. Bunch of fire wood is seen on the roof of all houses, which reflect symbol of prosperity

Day 12: Trek to Tetang/ Chusang (3025M).
The trail heads through a steep ridge of hills with some fines view of wind carved hills. Tetang village is located between 2 hills, which pave safe place of wind stroke in entire Kaligandaki valley. It is upper village of Chuksang on the way to Kagbeni to Mustang.

Day 13: Trek to Jomsom (2713m)
Now we are in the finishing stage of our trek. The trail pass through Jharkot village, which is famous for many interesting sites including Jharkot monastery, Tibetan herbal medicine center and old fortress of Jharkot, which once served as palace. Continuing the hiking towards Jomsom we can enjoy great view of Kaligandaki valley and Kagbeni village. This is entry point to Upper Mustang. We get a round trip of our trek in Ekle Bhatti visiting all the surprise landmark and historical corner of this isolated highland. Arrival to Jomsom and celebrate in memory of the trip with crew.

Day 14: Fly to Pokhara.
Today we take a 30 minutes flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. Once we arrive to Pokhara drive to hotel, afternoon free for shopping or boating in Phewa Lake or leisure.

Day 15: Leisure day or Sights around Pokhara.
It is also spare day in case of flight cancellation due to bad weather in Jomsom.

Day 16: Drive Pokhara to Kathmandu.
Breakfast and transfer to Bus Park for drive back to Kathmandu by Tourist coach, arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel. Special farewell dinner with Nepali cultural show in the evening.

Day 17: Drive Pokhara to Kathmandu.
Breakfast and transfer to Bus Park for drive back to Kathmandu by Tourist coach, arrival at Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel. Special farewell dinner with Nepali cultural show in the evening.

 

 

Price:- The trip cost may vary depending on the group size, duration of the trip and standard of services required. In order to quote you the price, please contact us with your detail to obtain reasonable quotation.

Cost Include

  • All Land and Air transport as per itinerary.
  • Standard 2 star or similar hotel accommodations in Kathmandu and Pokhara with B B basis.
  • An experience licensed guide and a porter for each 2 clients, their transportation, salary, insurance, food and lodging.
  • All camping equipments during the trek, including two men tent, dinning tent, kitchen tools, dinning table, resting chair, toilet tents etc.
  • Full board meal in trekking prepared by our kitchen crew with Tea and Coffee.
  • Down Jacket, duffel/kit bag and sleeping bag which need to be returned after the trek.
  • Special permit fee for Mustang (US$ 500), Annapurna conservation area entry fee (approx $32) and all necessary fee on Mustang region.
  • Guided sightseeing tour in Kathmandu with private vehicle.
  • Farewell Nepali dinner on the last night of your stay in Nepal.
