Step into the valley of glaciers without stepping far from Kathmandu. The Langtang Valley Trek is the closest major Himalayan trek to the capital — just a single day's drive north — yet it delivers mountain scenery that rivals routes twice its length. Over seven days the trail climbs from lush subtropical forest alive with birdsong and red pandas into a sweeping U-shaped glacial valley where the 7,227-metre north face of Langtang Lirung towers overhead. Along the way you will pass through Tamang heritage villages rich in Tibetan-Buddhist culture, visit the unique Kyanjin Cheese Factory established in the 1950s, and witness the extraordinary resilience of communities that rebuilt their homes and lodges after the devastating 2015 earthquake. An optional dawn ascent of Tserko Ri (5,033m) rewards early risers with a 360-degree panorama spanning Ganesh Himal, Dorje Lakpa, and the distant summit of Shishapangma across the Tibetan border. This trek is ideal for first-time Himalayan trekkers, travellers with limited time, or anyone returning to Nepal who wants a meaningful experience without the crowds. It treks well in spring, autumn, and even early winter, making it one of Nepal's most versatile routes.

Ideal for first-time Himalayan trekkers and travellers with limited time. Autumn delivers crystal-clear views of Langtang Lirung, spring brings rhododendron blooms through the forest approach, and early winter offers a quieter, snow-dusted valley experience — all just a day's drive from Kathmandu.
“I wasn't sure if I could handle a week of trekking in remote mountains...”
“The Langtang Valley stole my heart. The Tamang people's warmth made every step worthwhile.”
Rhododendron blooms paint the forest trail between Lama Hotel and Langtang Village from late March. The valley floor is green, streams are full, and Tamang villages host spring celebrations.
Crystal-clear views of Langtang Lirung's north face from Kyanjin Gompa. October-November brings the driest conditions and the best visibility for the optional Tserko Ri summit at dawn.
December-February offers a quieter, snow-dusted valley experience. Teahouses stay open, the trail is peaceful, and crisp winter light creates dramatic photography conditions. Best for experienced trekkers comfortable with cold nights.
A great first Himalayan trek for active people. The daily distances are moderate, the maximum altitude is under 4,000m, and the optional Tserko Ri summit (5,033m) lets you push your limits if you want to. Regular weekend hikers will manage comfortably.
